Learning About Re-Maps/Chips

Basicly what the title says need to learn a bit more about it and understand a bit more before I decide what im going to be doing with the car.

Got a few questions.

1.
Whats the RS Tunner Map all about. Is it a set map or how can you edit it your self, what options are there?

2.
Whats a "Live Map" or "Custom Map". Is that different to the standard remap you would get for your clio.

3.
Whats a "superchip/chip" is that different to a remap, how does it work?

Rs tuner is a box with a preset map, you load this one yourself. There are a few other cool things this can do like diagnostics, you can have a custom remap done with the RStuner. but this means doing powere runs on the roads and sending files back and fourth between holland. Ideal for a standard car.

Live maps like paul does at RStuning, are done on a rolling road, the tuner fiddles with fuel ratios and a few other things to get the most out of your car. You will see most gains from this stlye of mapping. Its by far the best ption for a highly modified car.

Chipping usually is turn up, a bloke with a lap top will load a present map to you car, job done. worst option out of the 3 imo.

"Chipping" usually refers to the soldering of the actual chip in the ECU like the old days I think.

RSTuner is a "generic" flash file that is written through the OBD2 port.

Live maping is as stated, either on a RR or on the Road using wideband sensors.

Understanding the "remapping" process of the Renaultsport models is different to any others though so you can learn lots from RS's but it will not necessarly be the same for any other models.

For me the RSTuner device would be perfect, you get the "generic" 197 file for yours and then you can send it back and forth to Henk until you are happy with the results.

Or if you want, use RSTuning in Leeds, they are very good an will set the car up there and then to perfom how you like I would of thought.

would the rs tunner know if you had an induction and zorst and matched inlets? or would i need a custom map to make the most of them.

The RS tuner is a box you buy, you connect to your laptop, save your std map off your ECU onto the laptop and download pre configured maps off the fastchip website.

The maps will be good if you have breathing mods (exhaust etc) but wont be good as a custom mapping session

Whats a "Live Map" or "Custom Map". Is that different to the standard remap you would get for your clio.

This is a custom map that is taylor suited to your car, is the best but the most expensive

3.
Whats a "superchip/chip" is that different to a remap, how does it work?

A superchip is a gineric chip from the company superchips, and is like an all round map, its ok, but best save up for either an RS tuner (which seems better) or a custom map

RS tuner has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH RSTUNING!

they are completely differnt companies.

Rstuner is a fastchip product.

Right matey, RS Tuning are a tuning company here, in Leeds iirc, the RS Tuner is what the product is called, you get it from the company who makes it, which is called Fastchip, look in the traders section
