Leased Lines

  Tappd'd RS
Hi,

Does anyone have any idea if these are at all affordable for home use?

Thinking about 2mbps up and down.

Any idea of prices?

Cheers.

SDSL is probably better than a leased line, if your exchange handles it.

As for price...........

# 2MB SDSL with 5:1 contention: from £65 per month
# 2MB SDSL with 1:1 contention: from £100 per month

If you look closer at that site, them prices are for the 'pay-as-you-go' system they do, done on a per gb basis.

If you wanted unmetered, you'd be paying a good couple of hundred a month

leased line is better than SDSL as you are the only one on the line, and the contention is 1:1!!

SDSL is expensive too. you are looking at least a couple of hundred a month.

unfortunately I can't get SDSL either.

Looks like I'll have to put up with the upload speed of the ADSL.

Cheers.

our 2mb leased line is 9k a year for 3 year contract and about a 5 k install fee iirc

Cheers Mate - I'll forget about that idea :)

Yep, and unlike SDSL, leased-line circuits are priced on the geographic distance between point A and point B. We gave up with LL when a single 256k connection (yep, 256k!) between Blackburn and Birmingham was just over £10k per year.

Having said that, they are very, very reliable - and being point to point, the full bandwidth is yours and not subject to the contention ratios of ADSL and SDSL.

We've got a 16mb leased line here with Colt. It's fast and 100% reliable. Not exactly cheap though, but the price has dropped massively over the last few years.

:eek::eek::eek::eek:

I bet that used to cost a fortune?! It must still be a hefty wedge per year at the moment?

How much of that 16MB is used for 'personal reasons', Lee? ;)

We have 2 x 100Mb netflex leased lines (1 redundant) for t'interweb and a few 100Mb short haul leased lines and they cost us a FORTUNE but we do provide web access for nearly 200 tails on our ipstream
