Renault UK sorted my strut/suspension knocking/grinding after the dealer refused to sort it. For the sake of a phone call it's worth a try.

Dear Sir / Madam

I would like to bring to your attention the problems I am having with my Clio 182 sport.
The problems I am having are as follows:
1, The engine seems to knock / clunk when accelerating or de-accelerating.
2, There is a knock / bang / thump from the drivers side wheel when turning the car around, this seems to be worse on my cobbled street because the wheel is bouncing on them.
3, There is a rattle on the passenger door, seem to be louder when the radio is on.
4, The steering seems to veer to one side, like the tracking is out.

This is the fourth time the car has been back for these problems. Problem 2 and 4 seem to be ok for a week or so after being adjusted but soon comes back.

The adjustments that are done to my car seem to be quick fix and I was wondering if there is anything more permanent, which can be done.

I would like to here your response on how these problems will get cured and making me a happy customer.

Many thanks

Always worth mentioning you're in an enthusiasts club and have spoken to fellow owners who have also confirmed they have had similar problems and got them resolved.

I've got Renault tech note details somewhere for your problem 2 thanks to this site.

I'd also try and elaborate a little as the letter seems a bit short and lacking in content. For example purchase date, current milage, Reg number/VIN number and any other details that may be necessary.

My updated version

Dear Sir / Madam
I bought a Clio 182 Sport on March 21st 2005 Reg number G8LAS and over the past few months I have been having a few problems with my car.

Problems 2 and 4 seem to be ok for a week or so after being adjusted but soon comes back.

The adjustments that are done to my car seem to be quick fix and I was wondering if there is anything more permanent, which could be done.

I am also a member of a Clio enthusiasts club and the faults I have identified seem to be a regular problem and which can be rectified.

I would like to here your response on how these problems will get rectified and making me a happy customer.

Many thanks

I think you should be a little more forceful. Don't *ask* for a fix, *demand* a fix. Keep the letter factual and don't get personal (no insults).

You could also state that you will be taking up the matter with Renault UK as it is unacceptable.

REF: Clio Renaultsport 182 Registration G8LAS

On 21st March 2005 I purchased the above car from xxxxxx Dealership in xxxxxx. Since that date I have covered xxxx miles mainly commuting to and from work.

Over the past xxxxx months various faults have arrisen which despite remedial work being carried out by the dealer persist to this day. These faults are as follows:

1, The engine seems to knock / clunk when accelerating or de-accelerating. Possibly faulty/damaged engine mounts?

2, There is a knock / bang / thump from the drivers side wheel when turning the car around, this seems to be worse on my cobbled street because the wheel is bouncing on them. After talking to other Clio owners it's my belief this is caused by the suspenion mount. I'm also led to beleive there has been a technical note issued and a modification has been carried out on numerous vehicles to correct the problem.

3, There is a rattle on the passenger door, seem to be louder when the radio is on.

The vehicle has now been to the dealers on four seperate occasions in an attempt to get the problems rectified. While initially the problems seem to have been fixed within days of receiving the vehicle back from the dealers the faults return. It is therefore my beleif that the correct repair procedures are not being carried out fully and are merely being temporarily fixed.

As I have only owned the vehicle for a relatively short period of time I'm sure you will agree that 4 attempts to rectify the faults is more than enough and as a result I am losing faith in the Renault brand.

If you would be kind enough to contact me by telephone on xxxxxxxxxx outlining your resolution I'd be extremely grateful.

Many thanks

That's how I would format the letter. I wouldn't mention the tracking as they will focus on that negatively in any reply.

It might be a good idea to leave out the reference to the cobbled street. They will probably try to say that that is what is causing the noise on turning.

Ur not talking about caledonia in preston are u? Bunch of idiots there. Took them two attempts to fit a new starter motor to mine then blamed it on my 36000k service being overdue. (was on 36600 and booked in for later that week) I complined and got a £50 good will gesture off my service.

To make thinks worse .
I wanted a lift home so this old guy came out with my keys saying you drive it home and i will return it oh and on the way can we drop a lady off at Whalley. I said if you fill the car with fuel because it is not a pool car it is my personal car. Then he said hold on put yours back and i will take a company car. How can they look at my car while im driving it????

If you send the letter then send it recorded delivery it cost pennies but means it has to be signed for, its amazing how much post is "lost" when its a letter of complaint, At least you can come back with actually it was delivered on ***** at **** and signed by **** ***

Good luck mate Im having similar problems myself with a coolant leak,
The stealership keeps telling me theres nothing in wrong I keep pointing to the puddle of coolant and asking "Whats this ??? Scotch Mist??!"

i mentioned that when i took my car in to have the temp sensor fixed, i even printed off a load of shite, the monkey behind the desk said that the mechanics wouldn't even bother to read them, even though i told him this was what was wrong with it

My mate composed this letter for me

14th February 2006

Dear Sir / Madam

REF: Clio Renault Sport 182 Registration MK05 TTV (Now G8LAS)

On 21st March 2005 I purchased the above car from Arnold Clark Renault Dealership in Wigan. Since that date I have covered 9230 miles, mainly commuting to and from work.

Over the past 11 months various faults have arisen which, despite remedial work being attempted by the dealer, persist to this day. These faults are as follows:

  • The engine seems to knock / clunk when accelerating or de-accelerating.

  • There is a knock / bang / thump from the drivers side wheel when turning the car around, this seems to be worse on cobbled streets where the wheel is bouncing on them. After talking to other Clio owners it's my belief this could be caused by the suspension mount? From the same source, I'm also led to believe that there has been a technical note issued and a modification has been carried out on numerous vehicles to correct the problem?

  • There is a rattle on the passenger door, which seems to be louder when the radio is on.

The vehicle has now been returned to the dealers on four separate occasions in an attempt to get the problems rectified. While initially the problems appear to have been fixed, within days of receiving the vehicle back from the dealers it becomes obvious that this is not the case, as the faults invariably return. It is therefore my belief that rather than the correct repair procedures being carried out, the faults are merely being temporarily fixed: As I have only owned the vehicle for a relatively short period of time, I find this situation intolerable.

I'm sure you will agree that 4 attempts to rectify the faults is more than enough and as a result I am losing faith in the Renault brand, and, more particularly, in the abilities of the tradesmen that your Dealers employ.

Please contact me by telephone on xxxxx to discuss your proposals for resolving the problems within 7 days of the above date, or I shall seek legal advice vis a vis compensation for the amount of time I have been unable to enjoy full use of the vehicle due to the outlined unresolved faults.

I urge you to treat this matter seriously.

Yours faithfully

Lee Sherrington
