not done it but doesnt lightening it allow it to rev higher ??

Nope only wieght loss, you have to be carefull that it is skimmed properly otherwise it vibrate to buggery

worked a treat on my race prepd XR2. Basically, it allows you engine to rev up quicker - which inturn, will get you into the power band quicker and so on and so forth. Only cost me 50 quid to get done.

the std 172 is balanced quite poorly, itll respond well to a nice entire balance.

but then you loose inertia so its harder to get up hills and looses speed quicker
