Locked keys in car!

  Lupo GTI
I don't know where to put this but basically I have a problem.
The car is a megane sport, Y reg, convertable.
Whilst fixing the starting motor earlier the keys where in the car, after disconnecting the battery the car has locked itself shut.

I was wondering if there is anyway you can get in to the car without breaking the window, like an over-ride function?
Any help would be great :)

Admin feel free to move this if it's in the wrong place.

werent there a thread about this on here before where they got power into the car and then pushed a rod in and opened the windows via the switch

Price up the cheapest window... cover the one with you're gonna smash with loads of tape or window tint so when it smashes, glass don't go everywhere. Have fun...

call the AA

Or put wedges in the top of the door and pull the handle with a rod,

Or put power to it and open the window with a rod through the door, look at my past threads

bend the top of the door open then get a bamboo stick or something like that and lever the door handle open. o no did you say soft top? your pretty much fucked, brick as everyone else said or a hole punch and a hammer

If you have RAC cover i remember MY mum called them up and they came and managed to get into the car with a kind of rod through the door seal. Unlocked the car and opened it all up for her, Im sure any breakdown service can do the same its just a case of having it lol

Yes, like Tom says ignore the lets throw a brick through the windows until you have exhausted other methods, if your a member of a breakdown company they MAY be able to use a modernised "Slim Jim" device. No harm in trying

If this fails then as said price up the cheapest window and use a punch and hammer, you will struggle with a brick (as you might miss) and your be suprised how tough it is, you need something with a small surface area

I work for a breakdown insurance company and I get calls like this every day I'm at work and most of the time our contractors across the country can get into the car for them.
So someone with a bit of mechanical knowledge should be able to do it, pealing the rubber seal away from the window is usually a good place to start, if no luck then break a window. If you have the bonnet open already though it should be fairly easy, you should be able to get a coat hanger through one of the grommets and stick a wire loop on the end to pull the door handle.

Just had a thought... if the bonnet is still open (would be easier to open than a door if it isnt already open) and if it has an alarm and it works in the same way the clio sport ones do, you could access the wires under the bonnet and short a live to the central locking and unlock the car.

If its a convertible there is no door frame so you will be able to pull the window out an inch and get a coat hanger in there piece of piss.

how much give in the windows with no frame?

i wouldnt use a brick though if you have to break the window. use a centre punch and a hammer or a spark plug and a hammer

phone RAC or AA, they will use a triangle shaped piece of rubber, and a rubber mallet, then coathanger wire etc 5mins

easier to get a rod down a convertable window than a hardtop tbh, you aint gonna damage any doorshuts either. just dont bend it back too far. wedge it with a boulster chissel with a rag around it
