Locknut rage

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..

...So my new alloys arrived tday, BK 238 16s, joy was shortlived however as i have a set of fekin wanky mcguard locking wheelnuts on my existing Oz alloys, which i put on by hand myself, they were tight...so as i made my first turn to undo them, no slip at all but the locknut "key" jus burred over rendering it about as useful as a pork chop at a jewish wedding. I went to ATS they could do nothing, went to a specialist garage round the corner...they could drill them off but not till next wk and it was 35 p/hr...a pos 2-3hrs and it could damage the wheels. So i went hme thinking that because id registered the locknuts it would be easy to obtain another, yeh right. I rang germany and had to listen to an answer machine, sum boxhead bosch bird speaking in fatherland with smatterings of english. Now i have to send off for it with a check for 18 fekin euros...so how long will it take!! Meanwhile i cant go out in my car cos il risk gettn a puncture for fecks sake.

get an old socket thats slighty too small and hammer it on to the locking nut....Ive had to do this b4 and it worked for me

If you can get the tool its best to wait. The hammering and drilling methods will work with varying degrees of success, but youll be best waiting for the tool and not damaging your wheels.

best thing to do, is to drill them off, that garage was trying to rip you of it doesnt take long to do about 30 mins for the 4 wheels.go to a diy shop or tool shop and buy a stud extracter thats about 4 mill smaller than the diameter of the nut! drill slightly smaller diameter hole than the extracter then hammer f**k out of it to get it in socket on the end and turn off! make sure the hole you drill is dead straigh not wonky or anything!

I had this same thing happen on me refurb mint phase 1 alloys. The plonker who I bought it off screwed the head of the nut up big time. They are genuine Renault ones and they where Thatcham approved locking nuts so I though arrgh no chance of getting these little babies off. Anyway to cut a long story short they banged the key on with a 4lb hammer then buzzed it off with the air gun and thankfully this worked.

You can as many people have said get the key tack welded to nut but you do run the risk of sh4gging your wheels up.

You can also drill them yourself but you will need whats called an Easy out which once you drill the hole in the thread you screw the easy out into the thread and it undoes the thread in reverse (Would make more sense if you could see one).

a stud extracter will remove them niceley.Otherwise they are pretty easy to drill out really.Just as long as you have a nice straight pilot hole a larger drill will go through and take enough of the bolt out.Give the stud extractors a go though... but a couple incase you snap one off. They are pretty cheap

Goto machine mart and buy a reverse threading socket...it looks like a cone shape....you tighten it on in an anti-clockwise fashion, it tightens the socket on the locking wheel nut and it should loosen the wheel nut at the same time....this socket is made by Snap-On...Check to see socket has clearance on wheel.

Before doing this try slightly tightening the other three wheel nuts.....

hope this helps
