Looking at buying a 182.....few questions?

  Liquid Yellow 182 FF
Right,

The time has finally come where I'm in a position where I can start looking at getting a 182. Ive got a few questions regarding, I'm sure they have been covered before but wanted to make a quick thread.

I'm split between 3 colours:

My first choice being a Liquid Yellow, I adore that colour but I know they are very rare, and it would be a case of getting one if one came up.
Second choice is Racing Blue, love this colour, would get if I can't get hold of a LY.
Third, is a Trophy, which leads me onto my first question. Would I been hated if I put a Trophy on coilovers? I love the cars, and I know they have great suspension, but I'd love to have a lowered Trophy. Will I been shunned by purists?

My finally question, with regards to mileage, should I be put off by a higher mileage, say 70k+? Also what are a few 'essential' things to look out for when looking at a 182? I'm aware of some of them but just wanted a little clarification if possible.

If this is a major repost, I'm sorry, just found it easier to write a thread quickly. Thank you.

the point of the trophy is the suspension, changing it is tbh a stupid idea. you can however get springs to lower it which sit on the standard suspension, think mark fish or someone makes them ?

70K+ is fine tbh mate, just make sure it has FSH and belts done

  Titanium 182
I've just bought a bg 182 with 73k fsh and it feels like new, clutch, gearbox and engine all feel very positive etc
I was in the same boat as you but make sure you give higher mileage ones a look too! And enjoy, amazing car

Yes, yes you would get shunned by the majority of CS for putting a trophy on coilovers :p You're paying a huuuge premium for a trophy then removing pretty much the main thing that makes it special. If you want a red clio that's lowered, save yourself 3k and get a flamer? If you think a trophy "wuld luk sick slammed" (which I assume you don't as your grammar/spelling looks fine :p ) then go to hell, if not the thing to do for T owners seems to be sachs dampers on "mark fish" springs.

Higher mileage isn't a problem. Many swear that the F4R gets better with age. Obviously as you get into high mileage things that you normally don't even consider may start to need replacing. At this age almost all 182s will have/need/soon-need a stainless exhaust. Cambelt 72k / 5 years. Aux belt 36k or 5 years. Lots of s*** out there so choose carefully.

There is a sticky of "things to look for" when buying a 182 in this very sub forum IIRC.

That's the issue I'm having with Trophy's, I wont have stupid amounts to shell out on lowering, and as I understand it's not worth it on a Trophy as they hand well standard.

basically buy a trophy and put mark fish springs on it. wont be much. if you want it lower then buy a red 182 and put coilovers on it

so drive the trophy for what it is and not having it for 'lowz' its sad i think people are more worried how high there car is instead off a nice ride and can actually corner well. each to there own

Thank you. I am not a 'dis ting lookz sick slammed blud' kind of person, but having owned a Clio on coilovers I like the slightly lowered look. If I did get a trophy I think I'd steer away from that then.
I basically need to make sure it has a FSH, Cambelt & Aux done? Correct?

Sorry, bit of a noice at this, a 182 will be my second car, my 1.2 I've had since I passed my test! So looking and buying a nice 182 is a daunting task for me.

yes, i would never in my life by a car without FSH. belts obviously depend on mileage or price. if you know they need doing then you could get the car cheap and get them done

I wouldn't either, its more the belts I wanted to double check on.

One thing that completely passed me by when buying a 182 quite young was that for the first time ever I was spending proper amounts of money and it was "only" a 5 ish year old car (not the 10 year old, poverty spec, rusty rear arches, broken key fob, poverty engined fiesta that is all you can afford to insure as a first car) there's no reason why it shouldn't be fully working & reliable.
