I used to blip around in a 1.8 Astra sxi, that was pretty quick for what it was, and its only insurance group 7

what about a saxo vtr, i know you may think chav but i know a few people on here me included who had VTR/S before the clio, a vtr is what i had when i was under 21, they are nippy and not bad to look at.

Agree, id go for a vtr in your position mate.

Iirc vtr's are more expensive to insure than a 1.6 16v RSI! Not bad cars though.

When I got a quote for one at your age, it would have been cheaper for me to insure a 2.5 v6 vectra than a vtr! Wierd eh?!

a VTR is also group 7, so i reckon you have got a good chance in getting insured on one. If you go for a VTR make sure you get the facelift model

seriously look into the Astra, i think its one of few cars that are a low insurance group for a 1.8

even a 2.0 focus - some 2litre models range from 8-9 ins grp
