main thing would be gearbox i suppose, if you go for a 182 also check condition of the exhaut as they fill up with water

so theres not much else thats a common problem? i am mechanically minded so looking around it wont be an issue...just be nice for the heads up on where to look first :D

and thanks for that 182cup :)

check the mileage as you should do a cambelt change around 60000ish, so ask if it had that done if not your looking at about £500 in the future.

1.clutches can sometimes be heavy cure is to replace 2. tdc sensor may need replacing with a new type one with longer wires. 3. dephaser pulley may need replacing. thats about all i've had with mine. just realised you live in thetford i live only 15 minutes away. p.s are you gonna be selling the valver

Hey, im going to thetford to pickup my car from JMS tyres tomorrow :) If you end up getting one make sure to come along to some local meets mate :)

As above though really, gearbox can go, mine went before I got mine but touch wood on the whole its been fine for 3 years of fairly hard driving, just had to replace the following but my car is on 89k now! Plugs, HT leads, coilpack & injectors, all in all though its been a good car. Make sure the belts have been done as its due 5 years / 72k which costs around £500 to do which is the last thing you want after forking out for the car! Try and find out who carried it out when it was done as there are so many threads on here of the timing being out due to the wrong tools being used.

182 exhausts hold water check for corrosion,

look for oil around the cam cover it leaks VIA the bolts,

182 rear shocks fail quite often look for signs of oil on the shocks.

Engine and gearbox mounts can be iffy and cause a banging on hard acceleration,

check boot floor for damage as they crease easily,

check joins where rear quarter panels meet the tailgate frame,

watch for vague / loose steering if noticed look at track rods and rod ends and rear shocks

  Focus RS mk1
check the heaters work, resistor pack common fault! leaking headlight washers, nakered washer motors, knocking engine mounts, cruchging gears at high revs, squeeking release bearing.

thanks everyone :D if (or when) i do get one i will be coming along to some meets and that for definately! lol

alot of them faults and that are fairly easy fixes for me if i do find any as i am a mechanic for KIA/Ford garage in thetford! just would rather not be doing the jobs as i work on other peoples cars all week long :p

and 182cup i may possibly be selling the valver but i didnt really want to if i could help it as i love the 'rawness' of it. been my baby for 4 years but needs a few bits doing now which i would like to fix as a 'project'

cool  if you do decided you are going to get one you can always have a go in mine for something to compare/benchmark if you like
