Looks like Sim Card Slot beside battery

I have recently bought a Dell Studio 15 laptop and i removed the battery yesterday and noticed i have what looks like a slot for a Sim Card beside battery.
Why would this be ?
What capabilities would this give me ?
Is it for the likes or Mobile Broadband or something ?
Although i thought for Mobile Brodband you got a Usb Dongle.. I was just curious and thought i'd ask, as i'd never seen one before.

Cheers

mobile broadband but the rest of the kit MAY not be in the laptop

Ye, unless he specifically spec'd it wont be in there. It is around £100 optional extra. I have laptop both with and without the mobile broadband mini card and they both look identical, its only if you open them up you will see the difference.

You can download the firmware upgrade for the mobile broadband from dell's website if you dont have the card it will tell you and wont procede with the upgrade.

Ive got a dell D420 with it. i bought the module 2nd hand for £40 on ebay.

Wouldnt buy a laptop without it now, you get so used to being able the use the internet anywhere.

I'll have a scan on Ebay, and see what it says.

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Won't be installed. All laptops from Dell which have the card come with a Vodafone SIM card ready for activation. Entirely possible that you can get a WWAN card for it though as it's loosely based on the XPS M1530 (of which I have one!) and that has a slot for WWAN, WLAN and UWB.
