Loom

  White Clio 1.2 @ 172
Ok,

I'll try and keep a long story short. I managed to damage the inside wiring harness for my 1.2 Clio 1998. It's sat off the road for a while :(, I have been contenplating the 172 Conversion for a very long time but money is fairly tight and I have some other priorities at the moment.

With that in mind I have a damaged loom and a car which will no longer crank/function so I intend to pop to my local scrappy to pick up a new interior loom. Now I remeber reading during the 172 conversion thread's that the UCH and ECU have to match from the same car I'm hoping this is not the case as I don't want to have to replace both looms and the ECU.

However I would like to switch to the Ph2 dashboard with the 1.2 16v Cluster. So I was wondering if I could harvest the internal loom from a 1.2 16v and dash/cluster/stalks and pair it with the engine loom (plug&play?) from my 1.2 8V (1998) as I really don't fancy sticking with my ph1 dash or with cutting up a new ph1 loom to rewire the cluster.

Depending on the answer's to the above questions I'm wondering if I would need to have the plip recoded?

Thanks in advance
Dean :)

you may well get away with doing that, its a possibility, although you will need the ecu (plugged in to your existing loom), uch, dash loom and clocks from the 1.2 16v donor car, and possibly door looms/rear loom aswell to mate to the 1.2 16v also as the plugs are likely to be different

If money is tight then fix your car back to how it was.
If you cannot fix a simple loom issue then don't do it.

ECU and UCH are easy to swop.

There ways round the propblems but for simplicity either use a phase 1 or phase 2 doner car..

But IMo don't bother you don't sound best suited to the time expertise and problems get the car owrking as Renault built it first and enjoy it until; you have more money/time/expertise.

There's quite a few assumption's there mate :rasp:

Money's tight in respect that the £1500 Conversion kit is just slightly out of my price range at this present point in time, but not for long. The car is needed at the moment.

What happened was I had to quickly move house as my landlord defaulted and such so I moved in a matter of days whilst the car was completely stripped a lot of it's parts were damaged including the dash loom and actual physical dashboard, now the dash loom is actually split near the pretensioner and alot of the wiring there uses the same colour and I assume is multiplexed so IMO it's not feasible to repair.

So getting back to the problem in hand what I was trying to ask is, What parts do I actually need from the donor car? is it the full engine/dash loom and ecu/plip or can I retain my engine loom and use a 1.2 16v ecu/dash loom (inc uch) and decoder ring.

from the other post I got the impression I can retain my 8v engine loom but use the internal loom from the 16v and ecu with no problems.

p.s. I don't want to return to the ph1 dash it's gash imo and mine is badly damaged. I prefer the ph2 dash so really in all fairness I'm looking for the simplest solution to get the car back on the road using a ph2 dash.

Kindest Regards
Dean.
