Lost key, change ecu set ?

  Renault Clio 1.2
Hi

new to the forum so sorry if this is in the wrong place !!

3 years ago I bought a Renault Clio 1.2 Grande for my sons 17th birthday. The lazy **** has only just passed his driving test now and wants to get his car on the road but he has now lost the key !! . He's had a quote from Renault to replace and program the key which is nearly £500 which is nearly what the car is worth. Am I right in thinking if I change the ecu, immobiliser and get the key to match this will cure our problem. I've seen ecu kits on eBay for around £90 and it's things I can do. Obviously a cheaper bet than going to renault for a new key.

Any by help would be much appreciated

Mike

Hi Chris, thanks for the reply

Unfortunately there is no spare key. When I bought the car it had separate keys for the doors and ignition anyway so maybe a good time to change it all anyway lol. It's great being a parent lol.

Thanks again

I'd advise against changing the ecu/UCH/key just because if you need a replacement later down the line, you then have to go through it all again as you're unlikely to have the VIN from the donor car.

I'd suggest going to a local specialist/another dealer as it's only around £150 for a key inc programming.
