lots and lots of grease

  Mustang, S13, AX GT
Hi,
The drivers side front alloys is covered with grease, I think its leaking from one of the joints/seals and by leaking I mean bad, I could pull over a handfull of grease just off of the wheel. i dont thinks its the brakes as they are still very sharp. I've been told its probably the seal for the driveshaft, or a replacement CV joint. has anyone got any ideas on what it might be and what it would cost. Its booked in on Monday, will it be safe to drive until then??

CV joint most probs. If there is already a shed load of grease you hae probably drove it for a bit too long with it split, it's ok generally to drive on it but not for too long as it knackers the drive shaft. If you wanna take the wheel off and pack it full of grease again it may keep you going for a bit but I'd get it looked at sooner/not drive it personally.

if its under warenty then take it ona rally course so renault have to put new parts on the lot

I'd guess it was the clip on the cv boot , rather than the cv boot itself , they are pretty weak and snap easily . Pack it with cv joint grease and jubilee clip it .

I had both mine go on the 172 , grease all over the wheels . As soon as i got my new 182 i put 8mm cable ties over the clips so hopefully they won't snap in the near future .

I drove mine for a month before i sorted it out , it was fine afterwards . You'll probably be ok as theres not much water or salt on the roads at the moment .

I was driving around in my 172 for ages with no inner drive shaft boot only changed cos it had its first MOT it was knackered but didnt make any dodgy noises etc, I watch all that greese around your brakes

its under warranty so if they ***** about fixing it they foot the bill for any bigger problems it causes, I'm more concerned with something making it dangerous/not driveable. I took to a mechanic thats done the work on all the family cars and he says its just the boot, and as long as I dont drive it hard it'll live until monday. cheers guys
