Low battery fault

Hi all
Driving to work on Monday the low battery stop light came on.
Got to worked turned it off
Wouldn’t start
Called AA out put charge in battery
Wouldn’t start with jump leads on battery.
Moved the negative to the earth on engine started first time.
Altonator not charging so have new one on order but is there another fault I need to look
Out for ? It’s a 62 plate

Sounds like a dodgy earth strap/wire to me, I'd check that first before you swap the alternator.

Where dose that run I did think was earthing but as wasn’t charging when running either why I started with altonator

check for an electronic battery sensor on the negative lead run from battery to earth, it sends info about the battery to the ecu, if you jump start using both battery terminals it then sends messages to the ecu that look like the alt is not charging, you might just need a reset. never use the negative terminal for jumping on a modern car, use a different earth point on the engine.

Started on the altonator
An finding the negative from the battery to starter motor was broken
But getting one currently is a pain
Hopefully get one Monday an see if it works
