Low boost conversion

Hi all i currently have a Clio 172 cup and im thinking of a Low boost turbo conversion.
The car is currently on 110k miles and im wordering if the engine would cope with the extra performance. I dont want to blow the engine up.
Its it worth it or not??

Do a compression test, make sure the cambelts done and if its a healthy motor thats had a good life, why not.

Depends really. Is the car mechanically sound right now? providing it's got good service history the engine will likely be sound. It's everything around it you have to worry about. Clutch, engine mounts, gearbox, driveshafts etc are all things that will be under more strain.
I went for low boost at about 103k and the car is now on almost 113k. It will be two years in December and it's still going well!
During that time i've had to have a Helix Clutch fitted as the standard one started to slip other than that it's been spot on.

I wouldn't bother.

£3200 low boosts your car.

Or you can buy a boosted car with a similar spec for £3000-3500, sell your car and you'd get much better spec for £5000-5500.

Boost should be the last tick on the spec sheet, after suspension, brakes and diff imo

Whilst I agree, you could save a couple of hundred going that way, I still think you can pick up some bargain converted cars so it becomes difficult to consider the conversion especially if starting with a bog standard car

For sure! Only worry with that is what abuse has the car been through, but I guess if all checks out why not!

If it's a bog standard car filter in £400 for an exhaust, you need a 2.5 inch system for boost

The only reason im looking at low boosting mine is iv owned it since March and probably owes me about £5000 now after getting Cambelt, dephaser and water pump done.
Also had all the gaskets and some wiring changed
New brakes with RC6 pads
Whiteline RARB
New gearbox seals
New driveshafts
PMS top mounts and brace
Braided hoses
So would preferably like to stick with this one now.

Can you give me an example of a £5000 turbo car that will handle as good as a well set up cup and be a fair amount quicker?

Bar a 225 variant...

Buying a turbo converted cup kind of defeats the object of keeping his well set up cup that he's just spent ££££ on.

Buying a turbo converted cup kind of defeats the object of keeping his well set up cup that he's just spent ££££ on.

5k, 236bhp, Quaife, B14s, all suspension bushes uprated, belts done.

Sell the Cup and it's less than the cost of the turbo conversion.

It's never a good idea to spend the money yourself on a car worth £1500-2000

But that's not a cup? I think either way the OP has in mind he will lose some money if he has the conversion or buys another car.
