Low petrol warning & computer display...

  Clio 182
Is this right??? Was on the red on petrol so had the computer on to show how many miles I could still do as the first petrol station was shut... - I was watching it go down (fairly quickly I thought) when the low petrol light lit up as I hit the A3 of all places, and the readout went blank which was a lot of f**king good! Is that normal as surely that is the time you need it most? :S

The readout goes blank when the sensor detects the level is to low. Its not very efficient when the level is low so it stops giving a readout.

Ah... How far can I go when it lights up anyway??
I forget exactly how much fuel is still supposed to be in the system but i think its 3 liters. However the gauge tolerance is so much that you could have anywhere from 1 liter to 4 liters. Running right down though you might have trouble as the fuel pump might not be able to get all the fuel out of the tank.

when my lights on and the computer is showing --- i can usually only get 9gallons in(never over 42 quid)...book says 11 gallon tank so got 2 gallons to spare if you believe the computer/book

My light normally comes on when the display reads 69 miles. Then 68 miles seems to be when my display changes from telling me how many miles of fuel left to "- - -".

Dunno why but when that light comes on I always start thinking "im gonna run out of petrol" even though there is a fair bit left lol

I fill up before the amber light.

Dont want all the sh*t from the bottom of the tank clogging up my filter thanks.

*Myth passed on by my grandfather so might be true on older cars

It seemed to be true on my first car, a 1985 one! I don't normally let it get that low but I couldn't be bothered to stop on the way home the last time I used it!

I always try to fill up before the light also .. but have hit red a couple of times, no petrol station near and got around 30+ miles out of it

light comes on when you've got about a gallon in tank plus whatever is in the fuel system. easy 35-40+ miles in the 172.

when light comes on i take a look at the mileage, add 35 to it and remember to fill before reaching this figure. not rocket science

not rocket science, no, as long as you know how many miles it can do which I didn't

Wasn't being funny with you Karen, just fill up within 30 miles of seeing the light and you'll be reet.
