lowering..help!

Hello all,

I am interested in getting my car lowered. Has anyone experienced problems with their clios since getting it done? I hear it makes the handling worse with even more body rock then normal. This mostly applies to 60mm drops which is what I am after....hmm what does everyone else think?

I am also getting my car done by R-tec most likely using their recommend springs and shocks, at a cost of £173. Is this a good price people?

Many thanks

From a clio newbie!

Ive heard a few things about ride, speed humps and rubbing on 17s with 60mm, so went for 40mm APEX - only cost £122 @ BB Performance as a Clio member (~£150 non-member!)

feels sharper, roll massively reduced, ride firmer, but OK for 30 mile cross-country commute and even 200 miles on Motorway.

thanks I am only going to put 15s on my car anyway as it is slow and I do not want to make it slower. (I have a 1.2.16v) so do you think then the ride will still be compromised?

I have FK coilovers lowered at about 70mm. Rides as good as standard really..generally its bumpier but it doesnt crash like the OE dampers.

Generally the more you spend on suspension the better its going to be. Id look to replace the dampers on your car as the suspension set up is a bit pants as standard.

16s with 195/45s would make your car faster :D

Rob you being funny or serious!?!?...:p

Lol anyway I just wanted to know in general if people have had trouble with the ride quality since lowering. If the ride is bumpy then before then surely it isnt worth it just for a lower stance???....

no dont go to R-tec. they f**ked my strut when fitting my lowering springs so ive had to put a new strut on. the ride is definatly improvedwith just springs so with uprated shocks as well it will make it even better.

i used rtech for a 40mm drop on PI springs and its fine. looks good, low enough for me. ride is fine too. think i paid like 150 odd

thanks david, yeah they quoted me around that price, is 40mm a big enough drop do you think?....what size alloys you running?

HELL NO!!!! 40mm is hardly even noticable, get 60mm, its a load of rubbish about the ride being crap

plus if your near birmingham i can fit them for you for £40

Serious fella, you currently have 15s with 185/55/15 tyres, 16s would be with 195/45/16s..so the diameter will work out less with 16s. Plus youll have more grip from the wider tyres. Result!

lol i had a feeling fred2001 would be rather passionate about this. I think I will settle for a drop of 50mm!

Thanks for your replies
