Lowering new clio

  BMW 118d

I have 2002 1.2 clio, but am wanting to upgrade to a dynamique. Will want to lower it, but will 60mm be ok on standard shocks? It will have 17s on it. Am I best just buying a full kit? Anybody recommend any makes? Many thanks!! ;)

60mm springs and standard shocks are meant to muck up the handling, its best to get uprated shocks.

i have 60mm Pi springs on standard shocks with 17s and the handling is spot on absolutely wicked. i want to upgrade to shocks aswell eventually (unless i get coilovers) but for now just springs to the job fine

Ivve got 60mm drop with standard shocks and 17s on my 1.2 16v, gives a hard ride and you have slow right down for speed bumps but i whouldnt say it upsets the handling at all.

i got 17s on but got a bit of weight in the boot (install) and it looks low at the back already. wud 60mm be too much? also whats the limitations with ppl in the back? wheres the best place to get the springs, set of 4 right?

I am selling my Dynamique....lowered 60mm on 17s, K-Tec Koncept spoiler and skirts, Dual exit Remus, Tints blah blah blah...its in Aberdeen though!:D

Lowered 60mm on Pi springs and its bumpy but I like it for some strange reason and handling is quite good!

It doesnt rub with a full car load of people (and im lowered 110mm!!!!)

woah woah woah....

well ive got a 2003 clio... lowered it 60mm on 17s with 205/40 profile tyres.

No rubbage on full lock!
no rubbage with 6 people in the car! even over speed humps
dont have to slow down for speed humps (unless they are really large mofos)
looks perfect, still a lil high on the back for my liking tho, but follows the tire nicely
im on standard shocks, now done 7.6k on the lowered springs (and its a 53 plate hehe)
and shocks are still perfect and it handles very well!

so if u get uprated shocks as well it might be alil harder but will handle even better!

hope that answers everything mate

p.s ive lowered mine on spax springs, coz i found pi a lil spungy

im after 40mm i think. dont think i wanna go as low as 60mm. the rear cud do with a small drop but its the front that looks high so if i go 40mm or 35 i should be happy :) so u reckon spax then con ?

Im lowered 60mm on pi springs on 205/40/17s, and all i can say is buy the full kit shocks and all first time round!!!

Springs do the job ok, if u have nice smooth roads and dont rag your car much. And it handles like a go kart yes, but its hard as flip on 17s, would knock the fillings out of your teeth and it gives me back ache! Tis a bit softer on the 15s tho. Plus pi springs tend to cause a bit of oversteer!

U shouldnt get any scrubbage on 17s and 60mm drop (or lower) if u have the right offset wheels. Im thinkin of sticking shocks on mine soon cos i want the car a bit lower, especially at the back end...

Oh one last thing, 60mm really isnt that low!

you had any driveshaft/bearing problems etc with the bigger rims and 60mm drop fred?

Liam
No, no probs

but now its 100mm drop ive had to replace every single wheel bearing!!!!!! (Y plate car!!!!)

Yeah 60mm is frankly a bit 4x4 but it makes the most sense in the real world. Anyway, as i keep saying OE dampers are not up to the task of the original springs so whoever says their fine knows sweet FA! (imo)

you thought think the clio handling is good ?

i must admit its much better now its lowered, but its bumpy as f**k and feels pretty dodgy sometimes.

i think im gonna order koni adjustables at the end of the month...see if that helps:)

Lads....i gotta 2003 clio but still under free insurance and renault wont cover me on it if I fit srpings foned them up on 5 diff occasions! ne ideas lads? ive bought the springs as well :(!

Cheers, Daz

Keep ringing them up and be nice some of the people who work there will write it in as a visual mod which has a small surcharge attached to to (£30 I think) and an increase to £1k excess.

tell them your mate has the same as you and he was ok to lower

I know chris had the free insurance and they just bumped his excess up

60mm really isnt that low who ever said they didnt wanna drop that much..

I still get people asking me if mine is actually lowered! so to be honest with ya, i would go even lower than 60mm, but that means u gotta get shocks as well.

And standard shocks do the job to tell u the truth, if ur getting serious about handling and all that then yeah get shocks as well, but in the end, theres only so fast u can go round a corner and power out of it in a 1.2 anyways!

Do you mean that shocks + springs will get some sort of feeadback from the road or is this impossible with the electric power stearing as my mate recons?
