It depends how much you want to spend.

There's an un-written rule that if you were to lower a car up to 40mm, then you'll be ok with the standard shocks/dampers, but anything more, it's recommended to upgrade.

If you retain the standard shocks/dampers, you may notice the ride/handling not as you would have expected. So if money is not that much of an issue, upgrade the standard parts if you're lowering.
