Lowering

  car? need a license 1st!

My next planned mod for my clio is lowering.

now i know that with the older clios that they have a torsion bar on the back, so im worndering:

wheres the best place to get it done?
How much am i looking at spending?
How much should i have it lowered by? (15" alloys, 195/50 tyres)

Its definatley the next thing to do, it needs it, i just need to weigh up my options

thanks in advance

Everyone will say this, do it yourself. Its a piece of piss, but Ill cost about £90+ to do. Theres a guide for doing the rear here - http://www.daz-uk.com/cliosport/guides/lowering-torsion-bar/http://www.daz-uk.com/cliosport/guides/lowering-torsion-bar/ . Lube that up nicely during the week and itll take 20 mins.

As for how low, mine is about 60mm down on the back and my 195/45/15s just fit nicely so as 50s would be about 20mm higher Id say 40 at the back.

Springs would be about £40-60, springs, rear dampers and front shocks about £150 upwards and coilovers £300 upwards :)

its it easy to do the front as well?

and what would be the best bet (being a student, and having no money) for the front? just springs?

ive just bought some -35 Gmax springs (they were dirt cheap, wudve gone lower if there was the opportunity). Anyone know whether the back wants to be lowered exactly the same as the springs do? Not meaning to hijack as i think youll wana know this too chewy

where did u get your springs from audin?

its no problem, it will all help me :p

i think with the clios the back is sat higher standard, so maybe it might be worth lowering an extra 5/10 mm on the back?

-40/back -35/front or somthing like that..

i got em off ebay, 29 quid delivered. im an ebay addict and its costing me loads recently! i was thinking that too about the back being lower, although i think it helps handling with the front being set lower

yeah being front wheel drive, i need some new alloys, mine are kurbed to f**k, but that will come later, i may just get them refurbished.

anyways lowering first, i was looking at some springs on ebay the other week. ive been getting stuff off ebay a lot recently, its handy.. :p

Front is better off slightly lower than the back but you can lower the back far more and it looks mint ;)

Best for price would just be front springs, but dont go lower than 40 cause youll kill the shockers in a few months.

I found the fronts a lot harder to do than the back but thats cause it needs a fair bit of strength and Im a bit of a pussy ;) . But check a Haynes manual for how to do it! I think the Haynes/Max Power manual might even have it in?

So how much am i looking at in total? £35 for the front springs.. what about the torsion bar? so i have to spend any money on that?

if your doing it yourself your only gona be forking out for springs. 30 - 45 quid. im getting my brother to do mine, hes a mechanic and a great money saver of mine :D hehe

think you should go 60mm with ever g,max or PI spirngs

all you need is your front spings, price depends on the quality you go for and a spring compressor [sorted] then you should be able to do it yourself,

i took mine to a garage and forked out £150 to be done:p

now i know how to do it and it would take about 1hr to do the lot
