LPG Conversion... Yes/No?

  Civic Vtec y0
I have always moaned about my car costing too much in petrol, everything else isn't such a big cost but it kills me for petrol! I spend c.£50 a week on fuel, sometimes more and sometimes less. So therefore I was considering getting a diesel as I am coming in2 a bit of money shortly, roughly £3.5-£4k. However I love my car and thats the main reason it costs so much in petrol and tbh I dont want to be driving around in a old oil burner.

On to my main point, I was considering getting a LPG conversion. This would more than half my weekly fuel bill and it doesnt sound like a lot but a extra £25-£30 a week for me is quite a lot as I only earn about £200 a week!

Would anyone recommend them? Any one got it done or know any one that has? Am I right in saying you can switch between petrol and gas any time? For example if im going for a "night time" drive on the B Roads can i have it on petrol all the time? Then switch back when im cruising up the motorway?

Any help or advice would be great

Cheers

No, there pants! poor performance, and have to be set up all the while!! even the proper manufacturer ones are a pain in the hoop!

But im not worried about performance as the majority of the time I sit on the motorway to and from work.

Can you switch it to petrol tho, when you want?

yes! but a mate of mine used to install them, his words were he wouldnt have one on his car! by the time you pay to have it sorted all the while you may aswell just buy fuel! buy a diesel??

Still considering the possibility of a diesel, but there isnt too many decent diesel's within my price range. Really only want to spend about 2k

My mate has an astra LPG . He hardly ever runs it on petrol , only when he starts the car . After it's been running a minute or two it automatically switches over to LPG . If it's installed correctly you'll only see maybe a couple of bhp down on standard which you wouldn't notice . You'll just have a fatter wallet ;)

Just make sure it's a reputable company that does it and you shouldn't have a problem .

Unless your a high mileage driver though it probably wouldn't be worth the initial outlay .

i had one on my jeep and id recommend it. the worst bits were the space the tank takes up but you can now get them under the car

Youd have to keep the car for another good few years before yougot the money back. I reckon would still save money if you got an old diesel, insured it 3rd party only and just smoked around taht to your work, if it breaks, scrap it!

ive got a v8 discovery thats on lpg and has been for nearly 6 years, hassle free.u hav to warrant the installation costs with how many miles you do to make it worthwhile.as for ppl slateing the systems most the time its cheap and nasty systems that pose a problem.the best systems are italian made as a rule.you will need to look into if you need a single point or a multipoint system aswell, big price difference between the two.your local installer should tell you this but if unsure there is an lpg forum.do a search on google mate.plenty of info on the forum.by the way make sure you get the certificate of instalation and that it is a registered fitter fitting the gas system otherwise your insurance wont cover you car fully comp.
