Should I do it....

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum. Have owned a few Renaults over the years (Scenic, Kadjar) but never anything particularly interesting. I am thinking about getting something a bit more fun to drive but relatively modern so I have been looking at Clio RS EDCs. I have done a bit of research and although a Mark 3 RS would probably be a better drive the RS EDC is more modern and offers more practicality. I am a bit concerned about the gearbox though. From what I've read it would appear that the gearbox has a good probability of causing issues even if it has been serviced properly. Is this really the case or is it just a few making a big deal about nothing?? There are a few 2014 Japanese Imports that I am considering looking at and while they have only around 60k miles they don't have service history. Should I be looking elsewhere?

I would be grateful for any advice....

@Sash has plenty of miles on her EDC I think, sure she can offer some advice on how reliable they are. My impression was that they were pretty good, some internet horror stories I'm sure, but you'll find those for any car if you look.

Current mileage is 239,497 let that help you decide.

Engine oil - change it every 5-10k. I do 5k now the mileage is high but did 10k intervals up to 100k.

Gearbox is sound. TCM has been replaced. Gearbox oil change every 60k.

Clutches are still original although suspect on their last knockings.

Mine is just one example of what they can achieve but if they’ve been abused and not looked after mechanically who’s to say what it’ll be like long term.

Thanks Sash, Good to hear yours has proved reliable. There are a few available at the moment but all are Japanese Imports and so don't have much history. Mileage is sub 60k miles so maybe if get the gearbox oil changed as a precaution that might suffice. Is it normal to have to replace the TCM and is this something that will fail at some stage?
