lumpy idle

  Mazda MX5 1.8

basically on my 1.6 16v clio ever since ive had it (4 months or so) every so often when i start it up it goes and idles at about 1k revs (when cold) but it feels real lumpy? like kinda feels like its bouncing up and down a lil

kinda hard to explain? but does anyone know what i mean?

Try talking it back to Renault. There are the usual thing which can be a problem throttle bodies, ECU mapping, spark plugs

the new generation 16v engines have a slightly uneven idle. any excessive lumpy idle is normally a pencil ing coil or a software problem.

yeah i dont mean like the revs jump about at all........ just mean it feels like its bopping up and down a bit lol

its cos renaults engines are a bit old bascially, mine does it like a gyppo. renault did reset the ecu once and that made a bit of difference for a while

the engines are designed to favour higher rpm so you get a slightly poorer idle. the newer 16v engines arent very old and they meet production/emission laws well into 2005.
