Mac Q: Ejecting Disk

How on earth can one eject a disk whilst a program is reading off it?

I just need to eject a disk in an emergency.

PS Neither "eject" nor F12 work on my Macbook.

Apple/alt escape to force quit whatever programme is running from disc.

And then try ejecting it.

Otherwise, do a force shutdown, by holding the start button down for a few seconds.

Sorry, I should have been clearer.

What about in DOS mode? I'd like to be able to boot from a utilities CD rom, then eject it (so that I can insert a different disc).

It seems to require complicated software buttons.
