I have mountain lion but cant seem to do it? I have the displays icon at the top of my screen on my mac next to the wifi icon. Do I have to configure any settings on the ATV itself?

Wrong, older Macbook Pro's don't support mirroring, mine doesn't.

OP, how old is yours? mine is late 2010.
