major oil problem with 172

right went up to renault world series at donnington about 140 miles gave the car a good thrashing on the way up averaging 90 as i got near the travel lodge i put my foot down had no power.thought this was strange it was really holding bk so i left it over night went out in the morning to the show and it was still holding bk so had a little think whilst at the show and decided to check me oil and it was low so topped it bk up and off we went and it was bk to normal full power great so drove bk another 140 miles got to work this morning and th engine oils now gone :dapprove: this is 8 litres in 3 days and about 280 miles and i can now hear the cam has got a ticking sound any one had this prob

its defintly internal this is a warrnty engine thats in it now and there was metal filing in the oil cap

noope the girl who had it before had her cambelt snapp at 29.000 nothing wrong with the way i drive it mate

i can vouch for all mikey says here, and theres nowt wrong with his driving. im sure all of you on here have given ur car a bit of a boot every now and then?!

Hmmmmm....metal filings in the oil cap sounds ominous. Some parts inside have got rather cosy with each other by the sounds of things

So no sign of where the oil has escaped from? Remember you've done some track work in that car so if the oil was low after that and you've driven it a long distance with nearly none in it things are gonna start to melt!

Sounds like its already a tiny bit damaged... I personally wouldn't drive it down to R-Sport

Can you get it towed there Mikey?

r sports only 4 miles mate it should be ok will make sure shes filled up with oil before i leave
