Making space behind the HU

  330 Ci
Just bought a new Alpine HU for my car and can't get it to fit into the dash because of the bundle of block/electrical connectors and various plugs behind the HU :dapprove:

At the moment the HU protrudes 1" out of the facia despiste multiple re-jiggling's of the wiring behind it.

Has anyone else suffered from this? What's the best way to get around it?.. i've still to add my steering wheel stalk adaptor to the mix, so things are only guna get tighter! :S

Take the dash off and try re-route the wiring from the top - or attack it from the bottom by removing the AC unit (I presume it comes out quite easily?)

mines a biatch to get in requires alot of force and the rca cords force the passenger side out a little might take a look see if theres anything up the back i can cut anyway, not enough space in there really

  Meg R26 + Mk4 GTTDI
When i fitted one in my last car it made the heater controls stiffer. So im guessing some of the wires were interfering with them:eek:

Remove the panel below the climate control panel and get your hand up there, as you feed the headunit back pull the wiring down into the gap behind here. It will still be toight as a nuns but it will fit, i had 3x rcas, ipod lead, bluetooth interface and stalk adapter and that lot fitted fine but not without a fight granted.

Loads of room in the meggy though :rasp:.

^^ Bang on. Get the hazzard thing out and you can get the room to get it in. It will slot just under the plastic on the bottom. Its a fuckker but will go in. Expect some nice scraped hands.

sounds like a job for tomorrow for me then! my rca cords are the problem my ipod lead is fine but ive got 2x the rca cords which dont fit in fully behind the h/u

They will fit mate. No need to cut. I had s**t loads coming out the back of my hu. Try pulling all the slack out of the cables from the other end of the cable under the dash as you put the HU in.

haha nice, love abit of grazed knuckledge! - yeah i bet theres loads of space in the Meg, jammy git ;)

How do i remove the panel bellow the climate control? (from which direction do i apply force?).... and also how do i pop the hazard control panel out?

Had the same problem putting in my headunit (Ph1 though). The headunit was supported by three flat strips that where underneith it, I cut two of them off so I could get the wires to drop under the headunit. But now my wires are too tight, which is a pain!

I took the dash top off.

5 minute job and makes it about 110% easier to pop it in. Went in with no issues after the dash came apart.

Think i might try that then - I've looked through the fubar guide to do it and seams easy enough! Didn't look like you got access to the wiring behind the HU though, just to the top of the heaters (although im guessing they pop out easily enough)

I've had the exact same problems.

Also I take it that you fitted the cage that came with your Alpine.

For the first month I had my x300 I used the standard Renault cage and that never helped.

Yeah I put it in first without thinking about it :S.... I take it yours now has the Alpine cage in also?

  Audi A3

There's a massive open space just to the left where you can push the wires over and down into the space, I've got the stalk adapter and 3 rca's etc and mine's sat in flush. Don't forget to push out all the little plates on the cage to prevent it sliding out though.

Mines in the alpine cage.

Ive got all the leads running over the top of the clocks inside the dash, and the USB lead running down to the back of the glovebox.
