Manifold to downpipe join

I've plonked a 172 engine into a mk1 and I'm using the 172 (ph1?) manifold with a custom downpipe

thing is, its blowing massively... its *slightly* out of line... by a few degrees maybe... but this shouldnt be an issue has the engine rocks anyway....

but the downpipe join im using comes from a pug 405 I think - the lads at the exhaust place measured a few together and came up with that as fitting best...

is it too small:

sorry i've not got any clearer pics... should the flange cover more of the gasket?

sizes look ok, but if it's out of line by as much as in the picture I think that's your problem
