MAP sensor

  Renault Clio 1.8 RSi

anyone know how much a new one is for mk1 rt? my dad reckons my advance & r****d isnt working properly, ie occasionally take my foot off the clutch under load and the engine stalls. reckons as load comes off, the spark is still too far advanced and takes a while for it to adjust, ie perhaps either the MAP sensor is blocked (checked it this morning, seems to be a sealed unit) or another sensor which feeds the ECU (or maybe ECU itself is duff) isnt working too well.

ideas/comments appreciated!

the map sensor should have a vacuum hose on it, check thats in workin order an not cracked/blocked

if you need an ECU then i have one under my bed hehe

take it off under load!!??

so your pinging off the limiter?

or do you mean whist coasting.....if whist coasting its usually the speed sensor behind the speedo dial.

map sensors are all the same so pick one up off another clio froma scrappy.

no what i mean is, say turn off a main road up a hill still in 3rd, the engine is labouring a bit so think ok change down to 2nd, when u put the clutch down it dies.

sounds like the speed sensor......try just dipping the clutch and coasting.......if it stalls or holds a crap idle till to reach a standstill its prob the speed sensor.

or try driving with teh map sensor unplugged

yeah i mean i usually dont even get as far as getting it into gear, the revs start dropping when you hit the clutch then keep dropping past idle to zero, sometimes if youre lucky you can floor the gas to keep it alive and it sort of struggles back to idle and i mean struggles. same as when you restart after its died. seems it hasnt got a clue what its supposed to be doing!!

try the coating thing later, and try keeping some throttle on (ill give a higer potentiometer reading) and the ECU wont think about cutting the fuel during the coast....

just that it runs virtually no fuel on overrun, and when at speed the engine uses the speed sensor to calculate the fuel needed to stop a stall......if its broke or badly connected, no speed reading.
