Mapping

Car  180.5 bhp 172
When i bought my 172, I was told it was remapped.

Is there any way I can find out if it is remapped or has a standard Renault map on it?

Thanks :)

Rev it to the limiter, standard is 7.2k when up to temperature. Remapped is 99% always a bit higher (usually 7500rpm ish)

Had it on a RR a while back and it was a smidge over 180bhp with a Catback system (Ktec Stealth at the time) and BMC CDA.
When booting it, it will hit the limit at 8k.

So judging by that, it is mapped. No idea who by or what map it is though!

Thanks for your help :)

Its mapped, and if you vou prefer your engines internal parts to stay inside then wouldnt be takeing it to 8000rpm very often lol.

To be fair, I have only seen it that high every now and again, mainly in 2nd gear overtaking tractors etc (I live on a farm so the general area is flooded with them!).
I don't do it often lol

If I was to get it re done, what would be a good, powerful map option? I love how it pulls and the high end power it has at the moment.

You sure you aren't misreading the rev counter?
8k is the short line not the long one next to the 8.

Mine revs to 7300 before the limiter cuts in. That's after remap at RS Tuning. 8000 seems very high rev limit. Unless the engine is fully lightened and balanced I wouldn't be pushing any engine as high as 8000.

My mrs one revs to 7850rpm, it loves it. Momentarily hits 8050 or so on the datalog get as the rev limit isn't a hard cut.

Having looked this morning, looks like a slight error on my part - thanks Chip!
its more like 7800 it'll rev to.

Is there any way, without contacting the previous owner, to find out the map?

Personally I would get the fuelling checked, at least then you will know if the map is correct or not, but you still won't know who actually mapped it.

at 7800rpm I personally feel these engines need rod bolts and uprated valves.

This may sound like a noob question, but is that just a trip to a garage to get that checked? Diagnostic machine place or could anywhere do it?

Sorry mate, was being lazy there and didnt give a very thorough answer.

You need to have a wideband lambda sensor placed into the exhaust and then have the car held under load to see if its fueling correctly.
This can either be done on the road if you can find someone to borrow a wideband off, or on a set of rollers instead.
