Mates RX7 5.7 V8 - Self Built

A mate built this going on for 6 months ago now. its evolving all the time but this gives you the general idea

Car was bought off another mate after the wankel engine blew. He then bought the LS1 lump for £900 from america

Mounting kit for the LS1 lump

Custom prop

One LS1 5.7 V8 waiting to go in

Dropped in, in a day

Land rover rad

Made to fit lol

Had to fabricate headers and exhaust

Plenty of air

Ditched standard brake setup for a proper pedal box

Few bits of carbon to finish it off

Recently refreshed a lot of the arms and bushes

Time for a run

I'm confused about the brake changes though. Wasn't the standard setup on a RX7 damn good anyway? Or am I missing something obvious.

He changed to a pedal box because space is limited on the bulkhead for the standard master cylinder brake setup etc so a pedal box saves space

Good effort on the swap but I can't help but feel LS swaps on an RX are wrong :S

Sounds wrong i know but once you've been in it and heard the noise you soon change your mind

I know what they sound like just one of those cars/engine combo's that I feel are best left as if that makes sense. Never liked people pulling out the pushrod carb fuelled lump in a GT Turbo and fitting the 16v NA lump, seen a few 3.2 carrera's in the US with LS conversions and then dragging the wankel out of an RX7. Just feels like part of the character of the car to me in a purist kind of way.

i dont like the ls lumps in rx7's either, they are fun to drive but it just takes the spirit of the rx7 away

Yeah, kind of takes away the USP from the car. Nice conversion though...

If i met the owner of the NSX, i'd throw some petrol of him and the car.

A shame in some ways but then again its probably saved a RX7 from being scrapped so thats good, plus a V8 in anything is going to be fun!
