maximum alloy size (without getting the arches cut)

does anyone know what the maximum size alloys you can have on a mk1 1995 clio are, without having the arches cut aswell, At the minute its got 13" or 14" steel rims on it, not really sure! but im hoping to get some 16" alloys on it!!!
