If you can actually run iTunes on your currently dying computer, just log into the store and de-authorize the computer.
You can then transfer your music library to the new machine, re-authorize the computer and everything will be fine.
If you can't access iTunes or can't access your music library though, just follow the links above. I've never had to do it myself but I know that it's possible.

Yep, it spends most of its life permanently on the coffee table, as you can probably tell

It is a good size, and the design prevents it from feeling too large. It's also thin and quite light, and doesn't bend or creak when you pick it up. MBPs are quality machines. IIRC they're milled from a solid billet of awesome.

The only part of the MBP I do not like is the crap black plastic panel at the base of the screen which forms the back of the laptop when it is closed.

Frickin' hell. To upgrade the 13" version from 4GB RAM to 8GB RAM it's an extra £491!
Does anyone know what the memory configuration is from the factory? i.e; number of slots versus number of memory modules? If there's 2 modules and one is empty when you go for the 4GB option, I'll just do that and buy the other 4GB myself.

I'm guessing they probably supply the 4GB option with 2 x 2GB modules as these are much cheaper than the 4GB module. Crucial charge only £88 for 2 x 2GB but £367 for 2 x 4GB.

I upgraded my MBP to 4GB from Crucial.

Hardware wise. The fact that the updates will be the same price or little more makes them just too expensive to invest in at the moment. If I was looking for one a year ago I'd be typing on it now.

I compared against an alienware notebook (I know they're cheap plastic crap) but for hardware purposes.

i7 cpu
6gb ram
1gb nvidia XGS or something gpu

That was about £1200.

But I want a MBP so I'm waiting on the update.

Oh for sure. Components wise they're nothing special. That's not what you're paying for though. A Ferrari is overpriced if you can't afford it. You can also tune a Clio to be quicker than a Ferrari but will it be a better car?

Alienware = overpriced Dell BTW. Fact.

EDIT: Incidentally, I am of the opinion that chasing uber specs in a laptop is a lost cause. Heavy, hot, noisy, and battery hungry. OSX doesn't even need massive specs to run silky smooth. I suppose if you want to do mobile gaming, then Alienware is a better choice fo sho.

Yeah alienware are overpriced that's why I used them as an example to accenuate the cost-hardware ratio. Dell make terrible laptops.
