First thing I got done on my car was get QM 6.5 inch components fitted in doors. QM 218.61. Bugger to fit though as standard size is 5.25 inch. Many ICE specialists said it cant be done but took it to a place who has done this before. Only problem was a YTS lad cutting the hole to close to the door tray and needing a new inner door panel!
As front sound is more important than rear get the best you can afford. Discus is followed by Reference, then Premium then Q series. Ended up getting PSC 316 3 way speakers for use in the back when fitted to a stealth shelf, but not gonna use the tweeters as that would bugger up the front sound. Can get MB Quart stuff cheap on the web or places like Ebay.
Ive got PSC213 in the front with the tweeters in the origanal mount position in the dash and the Xovers mounted in the boot(see ice gallery). The mids were a straight fit into the door card. There is a 5 position jumper in the Xovers to adjust the brightness of the tweeters but they are still too bright. I will have to attempt to mount them in the door somehow, if it wasnt for the loom plug that is in the door not having any spare pins i would have fitted them from the start.
mounting the cross over s in the doors is a b*****d!!! I found this out when transferring the stereo stuff from the corsa to my clio, the cross overs on my mb quarts components are like roughly 10cm by 6 cm, of the top of my head, unless the doors are any different on the 172 to the 16v, there is no space other than on the back side of the pillar behind the glass when the window is fully down if this makes sense!! not something i want to do ever again!!
