mcafee, get shut?

i have a new laptop which is stupidly slow, think it may be down to downloading music, anyway, i have mcafee free for 3 months, but i'm tempted to get shut of it and download avg free, is this a good idea or bad? is mcafee anygood?

also whenever i try downloading a spyware or free antivirus it stops at 8% give or take, is this anything to do with mcafee? what can i do?

any links to free downloads? ( although they dont seem to be working at the moment )

I can recommend Bitdefender 2008... the free version is limited though but you can pick up the paid version from a reseller for a few quid.

f-secure is what im using now, used to use nod32 and have previously used all of the mentioned above f-secure is a little cpu hogging sometimes its only downfall i have found so far, it even found a trojan that nod32 didn't find

I tried mcafee once, just as memory intensive as norton, so i got rid and used avg instead.

McCrappy. Get rid of it. Norton is just as pish.

As for torrents, that would be based on who is seeding(uploading) to you at that time. Torrents are dependant on this so just be patient and you will download eventually.

can anyone tell me why i cant download anything? tried avg free, some spyware stuff, even when attaching photos to emails it only seems to be able to attache 10 at the most then seems to get stuck, new laptop is s**t so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Upgraded my brothers pc last week so fresh windows install etc. He wanted Norton 360 on it despite me trying to convince him to use something else. The speed reduction after installing it was incredible, it turned a perfectly good upgrade into a piece of s**t. As far as he's concerned he would rather know he's safe and take a performance hit - he's one of those people that thinks because Norton is such a big name that it's the best.

laptop's hard drive ainy much, why dont you invest in a External Harddrvie, put pictures/music/movies/games/software anything on there, it will keep the laptop quick all the time

First thing I do whenever I get a new laptop is to format the b*****d and get a nice fresh install of my choice on with no crap on it.

i use symantec corporate but if i didn't use this i'd prob use nod32 / bit defender

Avast is the best free Anti-Virus software IMO.

The best out of the lot though is Nod32.
