Megga Insurance help needed :)

  Megane DCi 147bhp/350nwm
Righty...My dads just bought an EVO 8 and no insurance company will insure him unless he uses his no claims bonuses as he will be driving it everyday!

This means that i will have to do my insurance on my own now without his no claims so its going to make it more money BUT people i've spoke to have said that because i've put lowerign springs on they will not insure me because i havent changed the shock absorbers. ALSO because i have lowered it it means i'll be driving it faster :S and also the guy said with the modifications i've told him it could be adding upto 25% ontop of my insurance.

I think i should tell the insurance company about everything really now i'm on my own as my car is like £4k and the modifications are maybe another £1.5k on top.

Anyone know of any good insurance companys that will give me a resonable quote or anyone got any ideas what to do?

P.S i have 3points froma traffic offence which doesnt help...going through a tempory traffic light at 1am in the morning :(

Thanks in advance!

try norwich union - their quite good with young drivers and gave me my best quote

or adrian flux insurance - they specialise in modded cars

You are always going to find being on your own policy at a younger age to be costly.

CIS, Tesco and Adrian Flux would be the companies to try as they all accept modifications.

Expect topay a hefty premium on top for the mods tho if you are quite young or even soem companies saying "no" to insure you such as NU.

Make sure you declare things properly but you wont have any problems declaring them.

WORST case scenario is you have to take soem mods off or just pay full whack to cover them.

Does your dad drive your car? If not you should be on your own anyways ;)

yeah he did :D he had a tvr only used for weekends before so he didnt nee to use his noclaims on that..its just because he will be using the evo everyday they want proof that he is a good driver!

How old are you ??

My first year i paid £1700 on 1.0 Micra !!

Its started to drop rapidly tho as i built up my No Claims.

Your traffic offense will add a lil bit up and also your mods. So just be prepared to pay for them :(

Deff shop around tho! You will get better quotes then online ones, ring them etc...

It wont be that bad insuring it then, BUT as mentioned ur mods will penalise u because of your age. I waited till i was 19/20 before attempting to mod my car due to this.

Best advice i can give you is ring around do a quote with them on a standard Clio, then once they have given you a price say can you add mods.

They will either take them or just say no.

ringing is better than these websites cos you can really discuss your situation better than talking to a bloody machine

Bloody hell m8 - give the car a miss for a few years! I'm 31 now and still paying circa £760 per year on my 182. Has will probably correct me, but I found that passing the 21 and 25 year-old barrier meant jack-all difference in terms of my premium. It went down, but only by £30 or so - not worth bothering with really.

Time and time again, the only two factors I've ever really seen make a difference on an insurance premium are postcode location and the number of years no claims.

You're in the worst possible position. Paying near-mortgage rates to insure your own car while your dad has an Evo 8 sat outside. The pain, the hardship, the suffering! Must be terrible!!!
