metal bars / dash support at front of car

at the front of my ph 1 172 there is a sort of metal frame . i thought this didnt do anything and was removable . dash support only but one it was nearly out my steering wheel was able to move freely up and down . so for now its back in and bolted back up . any ideas ? does it have to stay etc . kieran .

I fit hold the steering wheel in I'd leave it in.

Also could be part of the cars shell and strength.

yes i agree but in other stripped clio's they are not there ?
