MGF Headgasket

I know its not a clio related question but as you lot are so knowledgeable I thought I would ask on here. Sister in law has an MGF and the head gasket has gone, local garage has quoted £600+vat Question is, is this a fair/good price? Does anyone know of anywhere in the stourbridge/dudley and surrounding areas with a good reputation that would be cheaper?

Somebody at work recently did theirs and they said it was an arse to do, I'll ask them tomorrow what it cost them.

he is pretty good , has been tinkering with rovers for years

Thanks mike. They are replacing it as a day to day car but will be keeeping it as a weekend/fun car so no rush,

lol, they are well known for going, head gasket is basically a consumable on these engines as they need doing every 40-50k

Right, just seen the guy. He said it was a total b*****d and he was quoted between £500 and £1500 quid, and then you have to get a garage to do it because aparently no bugger wants to do it!

Any garage can do it a mates had a New MPG and has 3 head gasgets in under 3 years one went in the first few weeks of him owning it and he didn't drive it hard.
Its down to the coolent space or somehting I forget what exactly.

6 hours to do I think officially.

  Vectra :(
When i had my MGTF i researched this as mine started to go (about 2 weeks before i sold it :S ) anyway the average cost that was being paid by members on MG-Rover.org was £600 and that was at MG. However depending what the cause of the HG failure was and what other work to put this right will push up the price. Most MGs from my experience that have HGF and get fixed tend to go again as replace the HG doesnt eliminate the cause in the first place

  172 cup'd extreme
my mates garage have them in all the time, had loads of mgf's and freelanders the cost is due to normally the block needs to be skimmed or in some cases replaced, new waterpump etc shite

dick

not any more!!

landrover have a new headgasket that fits all kseries engines inc the F.

problem solved!!!

  visualize whirled pe
Elises go pop too.
An old mate of mine bought an Elise, 2 weeks later it went pop! Took it back and pop again after 6 months.

However the K-series is a good engine and has won awards but is proove to this, the 130mph record holding metro in the link below shows an example of it's standard of engineering.
