Michelin pilot sport 3

I have ordered twice from tyre leader, and although (IME) it may take 1-2 days longer than camskill or another UK based supply, they still arrive when stated and with no issues.

Unless living in the highlands of Scotland there is no need fir winter tyres . The weather in Scotland is comparable to England such as lakes Pennines Yorkshire .. All wet places . Any premium tyre should be good enough . The tyre I've found best for all conditions is Goodyear eagle f1 asymmetric 2...Over 16 k on fronts and lots of hard driving

It depends entirely on your own personal circumstances. If you're commuting at 5am every morning you'll have a stronger case for fitting them, for example.

As already mentioned, winter tyres aren't about snow, its about temperature. Most of the UK falls below 7degrees for a lot of the day in the winter months, let alone the darkest depths of Scotland. Its not about coping with colder weather on all season/summer tyres, its about gaining buy use of winters.
Most people are happy to have a 2nd set of track day tyres to gain a few tenths on a non competive trackday, but don't want to spend a few quid on some winter tyres to improve safety. And you don't actually waste money, as you are saving on tyre wear on your summer set. The only outlay is on either paying to swap them on your existing wheels biannually, or a spare set of rims. Short term expense of a 2nd set of tyres, is outweighed long term on tyre wear.

Can't agree , maybe it's just bad drivers but I live in Scotland and have driven a clio 182 on budgets through winter with no issues .

Cant agree with what? Its perfectly possible to drive on any tyre in winter. It WILL be safer on dedicated winter tyres. Whether YOU have managed or not is irrelevant.

Just bear in mind that you will probably struggle to find a garage who will fit tyres that they haven't supplied.

Almost any un branded tyre place will do a cash job. Even Kwikfits etc will do cash jobs. Just go there on a sunday when the main manager is less likely to be in. Try local places first as once they know you less eyebrows will be raised. In these situations its definite, 'who you know, not what you know'

Lol at the anti winter tyre brigade. As I said I don't fit track day tyres when I go to tracks as I can get my car round well enough on road tyres but I would have more grip if I did buy track day tyres. No-one said you must have winter tyres in the winter in Scotland but that they would be useful. If you have the money then why not. No-one really needs more power or better brakes on a Clio sport road car but they do it anyway.

I only managed to find one place that would do it and they charged £18 per tyre and scratched the outer face to buggery! Will stick with blackcircles in future.

Ouch - I'm lucky enough to have mate to do mine. But have used 2 other garages in recent years when mates weren't around who did cash jobs. £10 a tyre is most i've ever paid from a non mate.

Thinking about investing in these when funds allow. The Kumho KH17's the car came with are crap in the wet.

That's what were on my 182 when I bought it. Good in the dry, dangerous in the wet. Getting Pilot 3s on Monday as can't bear the Kumhos any longer.

Not even close to true at all IME. In fact, I've never found a garage who wouldn't do it. Some are more expensive than others, but the town I live near is relatively small and I have at least five places under 6 miles away that will fit them for £45-65 fully balanced etc. 4/5 of those are tyre/exhaust specific garages as well.

As already mentioned, winter tyres aren't about snow, its about temperature...
Winter tyres are absolutely about snow! But you're right that they're not just about snow and are also about ambient/road temps and wet weather performance.

No-one said you must have winter tyres in the winter in Scotland but that they would be useful. If you have the money then why not.
Spot on IMO. If you have the cash then they're a good investment IME. If you don't, then you'll be fine just drive accordingly.

£287 quid on tyre leader.... With free delivery. Think I may treat myself now and keep then aside till the summer at that price... Cheapest id seen before this was camskill at 330 for 4

I may actually go for the Goodyear Eagles. They're the same price and tend to have faired better in most reviews.

  R35 GT-R, 172 Cup
Rainsports are better in the rain because that was the focus of their development.....what's in a name.
Wish Michelin would do supersports or cup's in our sizes....
I run MPSS's on my GT-R and they are a fantastic tyre for all conditions. If they came in the right size for the sport I'd defo get a set.

Just bought 4 for the summer 🙈

Hard to knock back at that price.

If michelin are good enough for nasa then they're good enough for my clio 😂

Yep, I have those on mine.
Best road tyre by far in wet or dry.

To answer your question yes, the reason they're cheap is the classic 195/50-15 size vs the more expensive 205/45-16 that are standard for Ph2.

It's a surprise seeing so many people raving about the PS3's on here. I put them on the Megane after the OEM PS2's had died and hated them, Step back from the PS2 they replaced and they were soon binned for something else. Common thing with RS Megane's.

Maybe they just work better on a lighter, less powerful car?

Tyres are very subjective and I think performance can differ between tyre sizes and what car they are fitted to.
Some people really rate T1-Rs but I went past a T1-R shod race spec 182 around Rockingham easily with my AD08Rs. Likewise some people really rate the Conti Sport Contact 3 but I found them really lacking in the wet.

When it comes to buying tyres I tend to base my decision mostly on my own experiences or people whose opinions I trust.

You rated the PS2s, yet hate the PS3s even though they are an improvement over the PS2 ??

Yes because on the Megane anyway, they don't grip as well and feel worse.

Common theme on any of the Megane boards

I've never understood why people rate Toyos.. There is no way in all that's holy anyone could prefer them to a PS3.

Unless you deliberately want less grip that is.

Yes of course it is.

Yawn.

Im going on my personal experience as well as the feedback from friends who have actually used them, Not because they read it on the internet. Out of all the many types of tyres i have ran on the Megane they were some of the worst, Certainly for feel

So the fact they have more grip is what, manufacturers opinion?

Fact?

Slower on track and less grip on the road on our Meganes, Can send you some datalogs if you want to look at them?

Anyway, I'm out. You can carry on but in my own experience they are worse than the PS2's they supposedly replaced. Ill stick to my PSS's for road use
