Migrating to sky broadband from another ISP, anyone done it?

  182
I gave my MAC code to sky and they told me that my broadband would be switched from my current provider to sky on the 15th. Its now the 21st and I still haven't been migrated, my connection is still working on my old ISP. The 1st time I phoned sky they said 'oh yeah u have been migrated, plug ur sky equipment in and it will work' which I did and of course it didn't work. So i've phoned them again and they have now said that I need to phone my current ISP and cancel my contract then sky can take over the line??

That doesn't sound right to me cos if I cancel my current contract with my ISP sky will not be able to activate my line till the line has cleared which = two weeks without broadband. I said this to the woman on the phone and she said that if I cancelled then my ISP would release the line then sky could migrate and its the only way to do it.

Anyone sucessfully migrated from sky without doing it this way then I can phone and tell them they're talking bs?

Thanks

count yourself lucky that you can't get on sky.

i work for an isp and i hear loads of horror stories about sky ceasing lines and then saying that they didn't do it and not taking responsibility, then sky won't release the line from their ownership so you can't sign up with another isp without another cease on the line, so you end up with weeks and weeks of downtime.

well thats the whole point of a MAC code. it leaves the ASDL marker active on the line so the new ISP (sky) can take it over. they are telling you a load of shite matey. get back onto them asking them why you need to cancel with the isp.

btw when did you order the MAC or do you know when it was generated because they only last for 30days. maybe Sky didnt use it in time

Thats exactly what I said to them and they said no u have to cancel. Ill ring em back and try again, getting fed up of waiting on hold for them :dapprove: I ordered the MAC on the 6th and gave it sky the same day. I also received a letter from sky saying BT had advised them of the migration date so it seemed to be going ahead ok, just didn't change for some reason. If they don't sort it soon ill probably have to get another code..

Hi, I have just moved from Orange to Sky, got my MAC code, gave it to sky, they told me the 15th for changeover. I got home from work, my internet was down, so guessed it was time to install sky.

Half hour later I was fully up and running, and the speed is faster than my original Orange, which claimed to be upto 8mb at £17.99, whilst sky is upto 2mb free of charge??? Weird really.

No dropped lines, no blocked websites, technical support a bit basic, but other than that, and after all the original crap when they were over promising, am really pleased I stuck with it. Another friend of mind really pleased as well with hers.

Hope this helps and good luck,
Piers
