misfire 1.216v

recently been having a few problems.
the charcoal canister that recirculates the fumes from thre petrol tank, the valve for it can be heard clicking even with the engine of, this is either a wiring problem or an ecu problem, the wiring seems fine.
more recently it's started misfiring when cold, gets to 3-4k revs and just dies couldnt get it over 40 last night.
i've changed the coil pack just incase but made no difference.the injectors are new so going to try some cleaner.the engine management light is on though and i know it could be a few things but with the valve clicking indicating a computer fault i'm thinking the misfire may well be down to this too so i'm planning on going tomorow and picking up a cheap ecu,uch and decoder ring.
anyone got any thoughts on this?

bugger just realised something, the car i was planning on getting the bits from has no key so if any got any other ideas apart from ecu at fault?
the clicking from the charcoal canister solenoid has been like this for a while as has the engine management light. the misfiring however has only started recently, sometimes its a blatantly obvious misfire other it just feel like the brakes are binding slightly then it frees up and goes as normally when you give it a bit

hello mate, how many miles has it done? you could change the plugs as these are know to cause all sorts of faults on these. make sure you get the specific plugs though as this will make a difference. other things are computer security bracket rubbing through the loom and ecu reprogramming, cleaning throttle body. plugs would be my guess though, and first thing to change

thanks mate i've got something i'm going to try but yeah i'm going to change the plugs to be on the safe side too,the cars done nearly 100k but the engine is one i got with 8k miles on it recently.the wiring loom problem i had with the old engine not going to let it happen again!hopefully it won't come too ecu reprogramming although i've seen a few technical notes on this!
going to change to lambda and the spark plugs today will post if it works!

The metal cage (arrowed) rubs against the wiring (circled) check this for any frayed wiring can cause all sorts of upsets

hopefully it's not this,i had this on my old engine with the new loom i removed the metal box that sits on top of the loom in the hope this wouldn't happen again, to look at it seems ok the protective tape round it looks fine
