Misfire all of a sudden?

Hey gang, have just managed to nurse my car home from work after it started misfiring on the motorway......

Couldn't take any load at all so just tickled it up to running speed in 3rd and gingerly avoided traffic etc till i got it in the garage

This happened another night a while ago that i put down to cold weather but it went as quick as it came.

Sods law, as soon as it hits home this time, misfire disappears again

What does this intermittent misfire sound like? Coil pack most likely candidate? Is that i thing that would work and fail intermittently like this on its way out?

Coilpack, Ht leads, Plugs.
Chuck it into a CHIP or a code reader and see what it shows

Same thing has just happened to my 172, had it on a code reader, so going down spark plug route.
Have you any warning lights on your dash?

only reason I'm saying this is if you find a fault please update see if it works for mine

sane as mine one minute it's fine next not so fine still runs nice and smooth on idle though. Due a service anyways so going for that first

I was thinking of pulling the plugs and looking at them, to check for soot.....

so, if say it was an injector at fault, would i expect not to see fouling on a plug?

If you have a misfire and one of the plugs is wet with fuel you can rule out the injector. This means it's likely to be electrical i.e. coil/lead

mine has a misfire. i have a mate who is a sparky and hes said that a very common thing hes always repairing on clio rs is the injector wiring loom as part of it rubs through under the guard. he said hes had this problem more than faulty coilpacks etc. ive not checked mine yet but its another pointer for you to try dude and would be a lot cheaper than a new coil etc to fix so id try that 1st
