Misfiring Problem Help Needed!!!!!!

Hi all, i have just taken delivery of my volvo 480 turbo to convet into my clio!!!

unfortunately, the car seems to misfire and hold back as soon as you put your foot down!!!

It also will not start sometimes and the starting motor does not turn as if their is no power going to it?

I know these engines are Renault built so i thought i'd ask you guys what to change or try first!!!

I think it could be a plug, lead or distributor problem, what do you think?

sounds like dizzi cap/plugs etc ........ have you checked those ?

didnt have time to do nothing to be honest, what should i try?
check for spark in plugs, then what if that is all ok?

if you could let me know what to try first and how i can test it i would be most greatful as i wanna make sure the engine runs sweetly before transferring it into my clio!!!
