Hello again chaps. On this occasion I thought it was time to show some decent detailing instead of dirty box to clean box like I usually do. What better than a poor condition Pearl Black Evo VI!
Bought recently by my Cousin's Fiance it wasn't in the best condition, granted it's been driven not detailed and is a good 10 years old now! The main aim was to restore some actual Black into the paint and remove the worst of the swirls while re-visiting for some heavier correction at a later date if required.
So some befores and straight into it. Everyone knows how to wash a car by now! Usual process carried out nothing fancy.

So inside for some drying, masking and some checking paint depths, more fun ahead. Now i'll mention that jap paint in general is soft, of course you never take this for granted but is a decent rule of thumb until you get to check. Paint depths were all over the place on the particular Evo, some serious low points, 2 front wings being very low, was very careful and the Bonnet and driver's door being high.
I had previously checked this Evo and it was very soft so decided on a combo to do the job. In this case a very old favourite combo of Lime Prime on a 3M Yellow pad was the order of the day...

Little test on the bonnet...

Quick check with the Sun Gun revealed some light marring! Yes marring with LP and a brand new pad! That's how soft it was! I was sitting with a WTF face! Decided to step down to 3m Blue pad, usually used for finishing and keep going with the LP.

Exactly what I was looking for, some great removal with minimum clearcoat removal, whilst leaving some deeper RDS. Conditions were good and LP giving great work time.

Not too bad for such a simply combo. Never to be underestimated. I stopped using LP for quite a bit. The oils in the product that actually make it so good cause bonding issues with some waxes and sealants. These days to get the best from the LSP after LP I like to give it a double Panel Wipe wipe down...

Today's LSP of choice had to offer durability but I needed it to look good, I think Black deserves it. Z2 and Swissvax Bos. Bos for those that know it's a lovely wax but imo it has simply become a show wax on it's own. Packed full of oils it leaves a great finish but simply washes away too quickly, hence the great base of Z2. Nice solid sealant bonding to bare paint for any further layers like Bos. So best of both worlds.

Exhaust dealt with with some Auto Finesse Mercury, impressing me from initial testing...

Enjoy the afters...
