Mk1 aftermarket front speaker setup - ideas??

  mk1 ph2 1.4
Right looking to upgrade my front speakers, its a mk1 phase2 car with the 4" speakers in the bottom of the dash and 5.25" speakers in the door.

Any ideas for setups to use? looking to spend around £50 and want some good alround sound quality (bass, mid and high)... i have some kenwood 6x9s but im not intending on putting them back in because i think they look sh*t.

So component speakers? aftermarket 4 and 5.25" speakers? anyone got any for sale? any ideas? lemme no! :rasp:

cheers
chris

I asked this last week

Now, the wiring colour is slightly confusing, but its a doddle to figure out.

I refuse to put 6x9s in my back as it says NED/CHAV or Steal ME.

I prefer using the mounts already there, and i put a nice set of SPL-X in there replacing the standard ones i had to fit myself anyway.

However if you want to go all out, place a sub box FACING the inside of the seats, audio quality is so much better. If you make a box you can have two subs and two tweaters, like the box i have.

Cheers for the replies guys, well my cars stripped in the back, putting subs, boxes etc in the back kind of defeats the object lol.

Yeh put 6x9s in the parcel shelf put them in the day after thought what am i doing!!?? and took them back out! plus my car got stripped, waste of money :(

I was looking at getting these

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=220070243898&rd=1&rd=1

only adds up to about £37...what you think?

So is the wiring a pain, will i need any additional, and do i need an amp? surely i can just connect into the head unit, or can i even connect onto wiring thats already there??

cheers,
chris

I put 13cm components in the valver and used the space where the dash speakers normally go for the crossovers. The tweeters I put sitting on the dash next to the A pillar pointing at the rear view mirror.

I'd reccomend components over coax's, huge difference and well worth the slight extra hassle. Also the difference between an amp'd and non amp'd setup is like night and day.

These are dirt cheap components but get really good reviews http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/value-pkf213-p-4745.html havent heard them myself but people on other forums bang on about them enough.

Link those up to a cheap (ish) second amp you can find on Ebay, and you'll have a system for £50 that'll sound 10000000 million times better than any set of coax's you put in there

okay cheers, components it is. Now the task of finding a cheap amp. So what do crossovers actually do? and the components you linked to dont come with them anyway?

crossovers split the sound frequencies up. For example with component speakers you get a tweeter and the woofer. You don't want the high treble sounds going to the woofers, and vice versa, so what the crossover does is to split the sound signal up into different frequencies and send it to the correct speaker.

Those components do come with crossovers, they arn't pictured but if you look in the tech spec bit they are there.

Have a look over at http://www.talkaudio.co.uk its the best place to go for anything car audio

Surely if I bought those component speakers i could power them off my head unit. it produces 4x 30W rms or 50W peak output and those speakers are 40W rms and 80W max so im not going to notice that much difference with an amped set up surely?? Im not going to wiring up and subs or 6x9s and so on...

I dont want it going so loud everyone down the street can hear me lol, I just want a reasonably good quality sound!

And will those components on their own be good enough for a decent sound? with just a 2 normal speakers and tweeters? obviously its goign to lack bass but will it sound a bit wierd or so on... anyone jsut using components in their car?

cheers again for replies!

Right heres my wee addition.

Yes you can power them straight from the ISO slot yes, its a simple swap and change in the renault. However you may need to add Spades to the standard renault connector, or cut it totally off and then place the spade one.

You will notice better bass and a better sound, so dont amp them if your just placing dash speakers. I have just normal tweeter and bass in one for the back two and they are magic. If they would fit the front i would have done it, but sadly i cannot do it due to the tweeter depth.
