Mk1 lowering/alloys help

  Clio 1.2i RN
Hi ive got a MK1 R reg, and at the minute is all standard. i was looking into alloys and lowing as my first mod, but i was wodering how much i could lower it on 16"'s without having to have any arch work. also would it be better to get 15"s and lowered to prevent archwork. thanks.

  My bicycle!!
i lowered mine 55mm, plus a coil out of the lowering springs on 195/55/15's and that rubbed loads with people in the back, i took the inner arches out on the back, then it rubbed on the fuel pipe that connects the cap to the tank and wore a hole in that, i lowered the back by 1 notch on the torision bar.

i forgot to mention its my first car so i dont get the torsion bar bit sorry, erm are no custom parts needed for lowering the back then just ajustments to the torsionbar, so with ajustments to the torsionbar on 15"s will it or will it not rub? also was there any problems lowing it 55m on the frount with 15"s

well, if i put it on full lock they would rub, but it did that before i lowered it, and i dont quite understand how one works, i just managed to figure out how to lower one, after i cut a coil out the front, the springs on just sat in when you jack the car up, but they were in enough to keep them in
