Mk2 172 £500 Performance spend!!

  MKV Golf GTi (240bhp)
I am looking to spend around £500, taking into account i would like to get a new exhaust

What would you guys advise me to buy, bearing in mind that this isnt that much cash at the moment

I dont want to spend anything on the performance of the car, purley for performance purposes only

If you guys could let me know what to buy and where to get it from, i am based in surrey

Cheers

500£ is not enough to do anything worth while.

You will always need a re-map and thats your budget gone

Yoko - parada's all round -320-360£
Apex springs - 80£
trackday.

Koni suspension kit and some DS2500 pads...Will give the best results and you will notice a massive difference!!!!!

5 hp is nothing in real world driving the sus kit and pads make a big difference and increase you enjoyment of the car every time you drive it.!

I have to get a new exhaust system, going for the k-tec stealth which will leave around 200, i have to include fitting as well -

SO AFTER GETTING THE EXHAUST WHAT WOULD YOU RECOMMEND SPENDING 200 ON???

thanks for all the help

Technically No...But as with all things, if your gonna do a job, do it's properly.

What i've done is simple tuning. Zorst, decat, maxogen, inlets and remap. Good for 10-15Bhp.

1000£ If bought new tho. I got some stuff trade/2nd hand.

what about this for an idea:

Keep the Ecu the same, get the k-tec exhaust and itg panel

then spend the money on shocks and the ds2500 brake kit i saw on yozzasport,

would i notice any difference from the k-tec system + panel?

the question really is small percentage pace increase vs Better handling and brakes?

would it be worth going all out and getting koilovers or just shocks for the time being?

a car that handles and stops better will always be much faster IMO that a car with £500 under the bonnet

BUT

a std car with a driver who has had track training/experience will be faster than a car with a novice driver with fancy suspension and brakes

  EK9 + Mfactory gearing..
wont see much gains with the exhaust, suspension its the best mod if funds are limited.

Spot on....!

tuning a car isnt about shaving a few second off the time it takes to get to work in the morning though is it.

I am aware that I can not fully exploit my car and push it to its limits. That doesnt make the extra bhp and coilovers any less enjoyable to me. You can still smile when you floor it and hear the noise, feel the throttle response and extra power. Throw it round a few corners feel the extra grip and sharp turn in.

^^ thats what modifying your car is about. I personally dont care if I took some lessons and I would have been as quick through a corner in my standard car, my car would still be standard and if I drove a standard one now I would notice all of its flaws.

Just my opinion of course but the people who always say "take some lessons you will be quicker" are missing the point.

Tbh I would spend the lot on tuition, there is more than enough power to learn to use. Dont change exhaust till it falls off.

Read up as much as you can on driving then get some lessons. My next step.

Suspension - coilovers.

Best mod you can make imo. You'll be pleased with the looks and handling.

  Turbos.
Any track day will have instructors in attendence. I know a great guy who will come to trackdays with you but he's not cheap!

Personally i can't see how someone can be a car enthusiast and not be interested in improving their driving skill. Clearly they need to get their weak asses onto a track to get the buzz!

secondly im going to get some ebiach pro springs to stiffen the old girl up,

with fitting this should come just under the 500 mark

sorry for the hijack, but where and how much can you get track tution from?

If your willing to spend the money (about £380) Don Palmer track tuition is one of the best imo. A full day with only Don, yourself and one other driver. Learnt so much in just one day.

Do the sportlines and pro-springs have the same handling performance ?

I don't like lowering cars but would like some sport suspension when the stock set need replacing.

Agree

How much do Eibachs lower the ride height of the car?

The pros go down about 25mm, but the sportlines go down to 60...
