Mk2 Ph1 Starting problem

T

Right i posted a few months back about having an intermittent problem with the car starting. This went away until last week where it reappeared. Now my initial thought is the immobiliser as it turns over but doesnt catch, and after pressing the key 10-15 times it would start. I have two questions really. First, should the red light on the dials flash when the car is off and key out of the igntition? The manual says it shouldnt but it always has :S
Secondly does this sound like an immobiliser problem, or am i overlooking something?

Cheers

When i hit a pot hole my fuel pump cut out, but i didnt realise at the time and the car would turn over but not catch. Maybe theres a fuel issue?

hmm well i went into renault today, and they want to charge £70+VAT just to diagnose the problem on the PC!!!
Can independent garages do this instead, as i'm not happy at that cost just to turn on the laptop!!!

Yes the immob light should flash no key in the ignition and it should still flash up to when you turn ignition on.
So does the starter motor work.

sounds like a fuel problem.. i replaced a faulty fuel pump just the other day, you find in in the tank - check its pumping..? should be able to hear a high pitched whine when trying to start the engine from under the rear seats, below the big black grommit...?

i think thats what has just happened to mine, do you mind me asking what the cost was on replacing faulty fuel pump.
I had the immobiliser problem a few years ago with a faulty key fob and its not the same problem as this time.
The RAC guy seemed to think its the fuel pump.

Gutted as i watched it towed away.

its definately one to do yourself.. cost £30, found someone who was breaking apart a clio on friday-ad.co.uk.. simple clip in motor inside the fuel tank, doesnt even need to be exactly the same.

did anyone say they had a problem with the immobiliser? when i turn my car off i have to wait about ten minutes before the immobiliser "mobilises" so to speak but the button locks n unlucks the doors no bother

Dragging an old thread back up here, but i found out what the problem was int he end. It was the crank sensor, apparently renault have issued 3 or 4 versions in the past few months, cant get it right. Well, it cost £10 for the sensor and £20 for the wiring loom, so not too bad

Thought that might help some people with the same intermittent problem as me
