I have Renault Clio MK3 2006 1.4 16V, manual with the K4J engine on around 100k miles. Its a family members car.
It’s got quite a decent oil leak that requires filling up 1-2 litres every 6 months or so. Free oil changes!
I got an opinion from a garage and they thought after a quick look maybe it was the rear main seal but were very busy and they didn’t actually get the car back to clean it down and diagnose where it was coming from properly so I’m trying to sort the issue myself as it could be expensive and the car isn’t worth much.
Im pretty sure I can see a valve cover leak as minimum but it doesn’t look big enough to explain how much oil is being lost.
It’s been leaking for quite some time so there is oil absolutely everywhere, so very hard to pin point down where it’s coming from.
Where are common leaks on this engine? Anything specific I should look at first? And any advice on how to approach this? I was thinking about degreasing and cleaning top and bottom of engine and trying a UV dye to see if I can pin point it.
I have a borescope and wanted to try and inspect the bell housing to see near the rear main but I can’t quite see an inspection port or cover that will allow me to get the borescope in.
