Mocal Catch Tank - Breather cap enough?

So I'm told the cap on the Mocal catch tank I have is breathable. Certainly looks like it could be.

Is that sufficient for pressure release or will I need connect a small filter still?

I think I can recall reading somewhere that these breathable caps were not enough to stop seals from splitting or something?
